Bryan Kunic of Hollister, California, and Laura Sue Jett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, have been identified as the victims in a tragic surf rescue incident that occurred on Oahu's North Shore. The heartbreaking event, which unfolded on October 16, 2024, claimed the lives of both individuals, sending waves of grief through their respective communities and beyond.

Bryan Kunic, 45, was an avid surfer and adventurer who had a deep love for the ocean. Known for his friendly and easygoing nature, Bryan frequently traveled to Hawaii to surf its famous waves, a passion that connected him deeply with the natural world. 

Originally from Hollister, California, Bryan was beloved by his family, friends, and the local community for his warm spirit, generosity, and positive attitude. 

He worked as a general contractor and was known for his craftsmanship, honesty, and dedication to his clients. Bryan leaves behind his wife, Emily, and their two children, who are devastated by his untimely death.

Laura Sue Jett, 41, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was a kind-hearted woman with a love for adventure and nature. 

Though she was not a surfer, Laura cherished visiting scenic destinations like Hawaii, where she could connect with the beauty of the natural world. 

Described by friends and family as a compassionate and empathetic person, Laura worked as a nurse and was deeply committed to caring for others, both in her professional life and personal relationships. She is survived by her parents and two siblings, who are mourning the loss of a beloved sister and daughter.

The tragedy unfolded when strong currents unexpectedly swept both Bryan and Laura out to sea while they were on Oahu's North Shore. 

Despite the efforts of rescue teams and bystanders, the conditions proved too dangerous, and both were pulled from the water unresponsive. Lifesaving measures were performed, but tragically, neither Bryan nor Laura could be revived.

This devastating incident has deeply impacted both the Hawaiian community and the victims’ hometowns, where friends and family are now left to mourn and honor the lives of Bryan Kunic and Laura Sue Jett.
