Pastor Ray McCauley, the influential and beloved former Senior Pastor of Rhema Bible Church North in Johannesburg, passed away on October 6, 2024, at the age of 75. Known for his dynamic preaching, unwavering faith, and pioneering leadership, Ray McCauley left an indelible mark on South Africa’s Christian community. His passing has left a profound void, not only in his church but

also in the hearts of countless believers around the world.

Born on October 1, 1949, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Ray McCauley’s life journey was one of transformation, faith, and dedication.

As a young man, Ray gained prominence in the world of bodybuilding, even competing in the prestigious Mr. Universe competition in the 1970s. However, his life took a different turn when he answered the call to ministry.

He traveled to the United States to study at Kenneth Hagin’s Rhema Bible Training Center, where he embraced the teachings of faith and healing that would later become the foundation of his ministry.

Upon his return to South Africa, Ray and his then-wife, Lyndie McCauley, founded Rhema Bible Church in 1979.

What started as a small congregation quickly grew into one of the largest churches in the country, drawing thousands of worshippers weekly.

Under Ray’s leadership, Rhema became a spiritual home for people from all walks of life, providing a message of hope, faith, and restoration during South Africa’s tumultuous political landscape.

He was also a key figure in advocating for peace and reconciliation during the country's transition out of apartheid.

Ray McCauley’s influence extended beyond the pulpit. He was a founder of the International Federation of Christian Churches and played an active role in addressing social issues, often being a voice of morality and unity in national discourse.

His televised sermons and leadership in Christian broadcasting made him a household name, and his teachings inspired millions.

Although he stepped down from his senior leadership role in recent years, Pastor Ray remained a beloved spiritual father and mentor to many.

He continued to preach and counsel, offering wisdom and guidance to those seeking a deeper relationship with God.

Ray McCauley is survived by his children, grandchildren, and a wide community of believers who will forever remember his powerful legacy.

A memorial service will be held at Rhema Bible Church in Johannesburg, where thousands will gather to honor his life and contributions to the Christian faith.
