According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, a tragic incident occurred on Thursday, resulting in the murder of Brunswick doctor Marsha Certain at her property in Wayne County by her boyfriend, who subsequently died by suicide.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call on Thursday evening at a property owned by Cardiologist Marsha Certain on Buffalo Road in Hortense, near the Glynn County line. A family member of Certain’s boyfriend had alerted authorities, reporting that he was threatening self-harm, explained Wayne County Chief Deputy Mike Hargrove.
The family member informed deputies that Certain’s boyfriend, whose identity Hargrove withheld pending family notification, had confessed to them about harming Certain and expressed intentions of ending his own life.
Upon the deputies’ arrival, they attempted to peacefully resolve the situation for approximately 30 minutes, urging the boyfriend to leave the residence. However, he briefly emerged from the house before retreating inside. Moments later, a gunshot was heard, indicating the tragic conclusion of the event.
Upon entering the house, deputies found Certain and her boyfriend, identified as Mr. Tracey Sanna, both having succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Dr. Certain was a respected cardiologist specializing in interventional cardiology at Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Cardiology, residing in Darien. The incident has left the community reeling from the loss of a dedicated medical professional and the tragic circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.
